The pack that didn't pitch
People with old valuables to sell already knew Vintage Cash Cow. What they didn't have was the confidence to post them to a company they'd never met. A letter from the founder changed that, and the campaign won Gold for Mail Performance at The Strategic Mailing Partnership awards 2026.

The problem
The problem was trust
Vintage Cash Cow buys people's old valuables by post. You order a free pack, fill the box, send it back and get an offer. People knew the brand. What held them back was posting things they cared about to a company they'd never met.
The pack went to two audiences in November 2025. One was people who had asked for a pack in the last two years and never sent it. The other was a cold audience that PDV modelled on Vintage Cash Cow's most valuable customers.
The insight
They were already thinking about it
The cold audience didn't need telling they had a clutter problem. They already had things gathering dust and a nagging thought about selling them. They were also being targeted by valuers, auctioneers and cash-for-gold services.
So we didn't pitch. We picked up the conversation already running in their mind.
The pack
The letter did the selling
The letter came from the founder. It reads like a person writing, not a brand. It opened on something nobody argues with, the faff of antiques roadshows, then made the case for an easier way.
The reverse carried long, real, warts-and-all customer stories. A pack like this sits on the kitchen table for weeks, so it has to earn a second read, maybe a third.
The leaflet showed the kinds of things people have tucked away, and what an offer can look like.

The test
The envelope didn't decide it
We split the mailing between a branded envelope and a plain one. Response came out within 2% either way, which tells you the argument inside does the work.

The result
30% more response than TV alone
PDV held back a matched group who were exposed to Vintage Cash Cow's TV sponsorship of Dickinson's Real Deal but didn't get the pack. Against them, the people who got the TV and the pack responded 30% better and sent in 42% more boxes.
Across both mailed audiences, the boxes people sent in were worth over £1 million.
Stop pitching your services. Get inside the conversation already happening in their head, and sound like a person, not a company.
